Adopt and maintain a quiet disposition throughout the 20 minutes with no distraction. This is a daily ritual that can help parents bond with their babies. I cannot over-emphasize the importance this time is. In my early motherhood, I have not kept to this immensely beneficial space for bonding and only realized years later the precious moments I had missed with much regret.
Joy body and essential oils were created to help facilitate this journey.
Pour Joy body oil on palm, rub and inhale deeply three times (parent) before applying oil on the head, face and neck of baby (minimum 3 months of age).
Make sure that you do each stroke slowly and deliberately with either your thumb or index and middle fingers.
FACE and HEAD
- Ying Tang (between the eyes) stroking upwards towards the hairline, 30 times.
- Stroke from the start of the eyebrow (Zan Zhu) towards the temples, 30 times.
- Circle both sides of the temples (Tai Yang) 30 times.
- Press on the meeting points between the ears in line with the nose (Bai Hui) 30 times.
Indications: Calming, soothing, prevents external (weather, environment) headache invasion, anxiety, panic, insomnia, restlessness, irritability and crying.
- Stroke the bridge of the nose with index finger downward to the tip of the nose 30 times. Stroke both sides of the nostril up and down 30 times resting on the points besides both nostril (Ying Hsiang) for 30 seconds.
- Gently rest your index finger on the middle point (Ren Zong) of the upper lip just below the tip of the nose for 30 seconds.
Indications: Opens up nasal cavities, stimulates olfactory, prevents infantile convulsions and spasms. Encourages chi and blood flow to the lungs and large intestines.
- Wipe the entire cheeks from chin upwards towards the temples 30 times.
- Rub both ears up and down 30 times.
Indications: Encourages digestion, assimilation and elimination. Enhances immunity.
- Move your hands to the back of the head and press both sides of (Feng Chi) 30 times at the indentation where the scalp and the neck meet.
- Stroke downwards from Cervical 1 (Tian Zhu Gu) to the Cervical 7, 300 times.
- Press on both sides of the shoulders (Jian Jing) 30 times.
- Press on the hollow between the collar bone (Tian Tu) 30 times.
Indications: Reduce head in the upper body. Prevent headache, high fever, neck rigidity, sore throat, vomiting.
CHEST AND ABDOMEN
Apply Joy body oil on chest and abdomen area.
- Swipe left palm from right shoulder to the left shoulder. Swipe right palm from left shoulder to the right shoulder 30 times each side.
- Press on the indentation between the arms and the shoulders (Zong Fu) 30 times.
- Press the point on the sternum between the two nipples (Shan Zhong) 100 times.
Indications: Prevent asthma, phlegm, wheezing, cough, stuffy chest, vomiting and bronchitis.
- Press on the mid point (Zhong Wan) between the tip of the sternum and the navel 100 times.
Indications: Used for all digestive and esophagus issues. Prevent pain, bloating, reflux, vomiting, diarrhea and jaundice. Invigorate spleen and stomach.
- Massage the abdomen (Fu) counter clockwise to tonify in cases of diarrhea, 100 times, clockwise to disperse in cases of constipation, 100 times. Massage each direction 100 times during normal massage.
- Press and knead around the navel (Shen Que) 100 times.
- Press and knead on the mid point (Dan Tien) between the navel and the pubic bone 100 times. Dan Tien is know as the sea of Chi.
The Digestive System is where inner Alchemy (Neidan) happened. The Spleen and Stomach perform the miracle of transformation and transportation. The human body is a Chi laboratory, where the gathering, storing and circulating the energies of the body takes place. Dan Tien is known as the sea of chi, the place where enormous amount of chi/energy can be stored.
Indications: Prevent bedwetting, anxiety, depression, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. Help strengthen immunity, digestion, elimination and assimilation.
ARMS and HANDS
Apply Joy body oil on arms and hands
- Start on the left side of the inner arm and stroke downwards towards the inner elbow, massage along the crease 100 times. Stroke downwards towards the palm 100 times.
- Massage the entire palm, stroke the fingers and thumb towards their tips and knead on the middle point of the palm (Lao Gong) 100 times.
- Turn the hand and stroke upwards towards the shoulders 100 times.
- Repeat on the right side.
Indications: There are 6 meridians lines (energy pathways) on the arms. The Lung, Large Intestines, Heart Governor, Tripper Heater, Heart and Small Intestines. Frequent massage will ensure a smooth flow of Chi and Blood.
LEGS and FEET
Apply Joy body oil on the legs and feet.
- Start with the outer left leg and stroke downwards towards the knee 100 times, massage the knee and press on the point below the knee (Zu San Li) 100 times. Stroke downward towards the feet 100 times.
- Massage the entire feet and sole, stroke the toes towards their tips and knead on the indentation on the sole (Yong Quan) 100 times.
- Massage around the inner and outer ankles 30 times.
- Stroke the inner left leg upwards towards the knee and press on the point above the ankle (San Yin Jiao) 100 times.
- Stroke from the knee towards the groin and press on the groove (Ji Mai) at the joint of the left thigh to the torso 100 times.
- Repeat on the right side.
Indications: There are 6 meridians (energy pathways) on the legs. The Kidneys, Bladder, Liver, Gall Bladder, Spleen and Stomach. Frequent massage will ensure a smooth flow of Chi and Blood.
BACK and SPINE
Apply Joy body oil on the back and legs.
- Glide with thumb gently down the spinal column (Ji Zhu), C7 to Sacrum 100 times.
- Glide with thumb both sides of the spinal column (Ji Zhu), 100 times.
- Glide with thumb both sides about one finger width away from spinal column (Ji Zhu), 100 times.
Indications: The Governing Vessel (Tu mai) meridian moves up the spinal column from the tailbone. The bladder meridian (longest meridian) moves down both sides of the spinal column. Along these meridians are major acupoints for all our organs. Lungs, Heart, Spleen, Stomach, Liver, Kidneys, Small Intestines, Large Intestines, reproductive organs and Bladder. Massaging the back help with regulating the smooth and efficient function of these organs.
BUTTOCKS and BACK of LEGS
Apply Joy Body oil on the buttocks and back of legs.
- Knead both the buttocks with your thumb and press on the indentation in the middle of the buttocks (100 times.
- Glide down both sides of the legs and press on the points in the middle of both the back of the knees 100 times.
- Glide down both sides of the calves 100 times and rest on both sides of the soles for five seconds.
- Place your palm on the back in between the shoulder blades (Xin Shu) for five seconds to end the massage.
Indications: Prevent most genital and urinary related disorders. Useful for blockages of defecation and urination. Strengthen the Kidneys, prevent headaches, stiff neck, weak lower limbs.
